I moved into college today. I'm incredibly tired and I just got out of a Residential Life meeting. Hopefully I'll have the energy to update this soon.
Love,
Me

Why I am (Sometimes) Stupid and So is Packing
A clarification on the title, packing is in reality, almost always stupid. Packing for college is very different than packing for a long trip. For example, I spent a month as an exchange student in Japan last July. You would think packing for a month long trip would be fairly similar to packing for a new residence, except the latter would be on a larger scale. If you did think that, you would be horrendously INCORRECT. There's something totally different about trying to pick up your entire life and squeeze it into half of a 13' x 15' room.
So now, moving on to why there is a little hedgehog of shame, seen above. I have a list of stuff categorized as "To Find" and one of those things was my camera charger. It seemed a simple enough task. I knew that I had brought it back from Colorado, so by process of elimination, I knew it lurked in my house. This would seem to be no problem, except that my house eats things. I recruited help in my search, but to no avail. Neither of us could find it. And then, about 30 minutes later, I decide to check the box I had designated for electronics. Of course, I had already packed it away in the appropirate space, but for reasons unknown, it materilized on my list. Ah, well.
There's also a hurricane coming towards me. Hoo-rah. Hopefully I'll have electricity...

Feeling Punny
Did you know that another name for a pun is a paronomasia? To me that sounds more like a disease than a twisting of words. Maybe it's appropriate though because some people do find puns rather painful. I used to be one of them, and then suddenly one day... KAPOW I'm punning it up with the rest of them. So just for all three of you reading this (maybe more..?) I found a lovely pun! Jokes and puns are always better recieved in person, but when I read this it made me laugh out loud. And no, not in the LOLLAMA (the phrase you use when someone sends you a funny internet photo of a llama or alpaca) sense, but in the quietly-chuckling-at-my-laptop kind of way. It may not amuse anyone else though.
Without further ado, A PUN!
There are two guys who have been lost in the desert for weeks, and they're at death's door. As they stumble on, hoping for salvation in the form of an oasis or something similar, they suddenly spy, through the heat haze, a small tree off in the distance.
As they get closer, they can see that the tree is draped with rasher upon rasher of bacon. There's smoked bacon, crispy bacon, life-giving juicy nearly-raw bacon, all sorts. And the smell... oh, the glorious smell!
"Look Pepe," says the first man. "It's a bacon tree!"
"You're right!" says Pepe, "We're saved!"
Pepe doesn't wait another second. He runs up to the tree salivating at the prospect of food. But just as he gets to within five feet of the tree, there's the sound of machine gun fire, and he is shot down in a hail of bullets.
His friend quickly drops down on the sand, and calls across to the dying Pepe.
"Pepe!! Pepe!! What on earth happened?"
And with his dying breath Pepe calls back: "Ugh, run, run!! It's not a Bacon Tree after all..."
"...its a ham bush!"
To avoid plagarizing someone else's silliness I found this at badpuns.com. If you're looking for an example of my original punnery, see my blogger profile.
By the way I'm having pizza today! You may say, why Amelia, that is not so interesting. But I will tell you that I will finally be having my ULTIMATE PIZZA with the three toppings I love but have never had together. I may take a photo... updates to come haha.
Also, ONE WEEK until I depart for college-land. That's all. Besides that there was an earthquake today.
Oh the damage that was in D.C!

Car Music
When you're driving in the car, you can't just have any music. Certain music is "car music" and others are distinctly unfit for driving to. Previously I had been listening to my copy of the Killers' "Day and Age" in the car. It's a great CD in general, but also good driving music. The problem is, the CD is only 10 tracks long, and I'm not a fan of the last song.
So hence, I decided to make myself a lovely mixtape. I know it's not really a tape, but mix CD doesn't sound very nice, now does it?
I'll finish this post later, and because it was requested THERE WILL BE A JOKE IN MY NEXT POST.
Now because I feel guilty for short changing this post, a gif....
Well, the gifs aren't working... :(
Naw Peas.

The End? Or the Beginning?
Please excuse the seemingly cheesy title for this blog post. You may go "Echhh what a TERRIBLE and PREDICTABLE title about the end of SUMMER. And stop CAPITALIZING random phrases. It's RATHER odd."
By the way, if you do make an "echhh" sound, I hope it sounds like it does in this video...

Well on to the actual post. The end of this summer is quite different from most of the others. I mean sure, the weather's still warm, I'm procrastinating from things like I do every summer, and they're still showing only reruns on TV.

I found this bird on stumbleupon, one source of my procrastination.
This picture combines two things I love, cute things and cupcakes.

P.S. This is my desktop background
The main difference (besides my newfound CSI: NY addiction) is that I'm not just going to a different school at the end of August, but I'm going to a different city, and a different home. My friends have just begun to scatter about the country (and some around the world) and a strange mix of excitement and anxiety has set in. I want to yell out to them "Don't leave! Why are you leaving for college/boot camp/New Zeland, so soon?" It makes me realize that I too will soon be somewhere else. Part of me insists that I don't want to pack my things into a car and go five hours away.
Well, actually I really do want to go to college. But it's just so intimidating trying to figure everything out. And college will mean homework again. Can you really call it homework if you only go a different building on campus to do it? I'm not sure dormwork or stuff-I-wrote-in-the-library will catch on as well as homework did.

Addictions
Okay, so I'm not really addicted to anything. But I do have a number of things I sort of collect.
The first (as promised) is rubber ducks.
This picture shows probably about half. Please note that's about 3 rows deep.
Anyways, those are my ducks. There's not much to say about them except I have an odd variety of them and the sheer number is quite large.
Secondly, I own a lot of nail polish. Probably about 70 bottles? I usually have a different color of nail polish for pretty much every week. I won't go on about this one, because it's a tad boring, but I thought it deserved a place on list.
I also just bought some really rad socks. They have sheep and robots on them. Just not on the same pair.
This was oddly short and poorly written. Please forgive me!

Quick Quacking Update
I'm really tired and my face is partially numb so I'm not quite in the blogging mood.
I plan to to a more detailed post on this topic later but I'll give you a sneak peak.
I collect rubber ducks. I don't know why. Or how. They just sort of accumulate.
Anways, now here's a duck haiku.
Quack, quack, quack, quack, quack.
Look, a duck! A duck! Right there!
Oh wait. Just a rock.
That was terrible. Please forgive me.

Uninspired Title
Sure, I could write a blog post called "The Joys of Eating Mostly Pudding" or "Golly Gee Willikers, My Face Sure Does Hurt!" or even "A Thesis on the Effects of Watching CSI on the Mind" but those would all seem to be too similar to all my other posts that I wrote post-op.
So I will only leave you with the fact that tomorrow I will be touring 62 people coming from Korea. I won't be the only tour guide, but that doesn't mean it's going to be easy. Hopefully I'll come away with some good stories to tell.
P.S. It took me over an hour and a half to eat a bowl of ravoli for dinner.

Foooooood
So I took the day off from work because truthfully I don't think I had it in me to be nice to demanding strangers today. I've loved my job this summer but I'm pretty sure having a bruised, pained chipmunk-girl in the office would have been bad for everyone.
Besides watching a lot of CSI NY and some random free TV shows that were on demand, and figuring out my new computer, I made a list of everything I wanted to eat throughout the day. And I hope to eat all these things in the next 22 days before I leave. So I'll look like a chipmunk even after the swelling goes down haha.
And now, a few obese selections from my list of....
"Tasty Noms That I Cannot Eat at This Point"
P.S. Here's a photo of some pasta I ate in the spring. Love at first bite.

- Burgers. Note: On CSI Vegas they kept talking about In-and-Out Burgers, Animal style and now I'm intrigued. Unfortunately, all of their restaurants are on the West Coast. Ah well.
- Sushi (All kinds)
- Paninis (Like the Turkey Artichoke Spinach one from Panera)
- Ceaser Salads
- Pizza
- Crispy Crab Rangoons
- Cupcakes. With pink butter cream frosting. Why pink? Because I said so.
- Pad Thai
- Crepes
- Fresh Tomatoes (Not unhealthy like most of the list, but still so good in the summer)
- Enchiladas
- BBQ Pulled Pork

Things You Learn
Things I learned today:
1. The ability to chew is a blessing. Appreciate it!
2. Just because you are perscribed a medicine doesn't mean it will cure all that ails you
2a. Such a medicine may in fact make you more ill
3. I can only watch so much TV
4. Blogging is really hard when your face/mouth/teeth/soul hurts
5. Pain makes me over dramatic
aaaand that's enough for now.

Chipmunk Cheeks
So I know I said that I was going to post everyday but I got out my wisdom teeth yesterday. I feel that this is a fair excuse. Yesterday I felt absolutlety terrible. I won't go into the gorey details (and gorey they are) because that would not be fun for anyone. I've noticed that since I've lost my ability to chew, I have been wanting to eating everything that I can't have. Today I've been craving evrything from crunchy ceasar salad, to hamburgers with bacon and bleu cheese. And pizza has been sounding pretty good too.
I actually have a pizza goal to establish before I go to college. My top three pizza toppings are meatballs, mushrooms and onions. Oddly enough, I've never had them all on one pie. So hopefully when I regain the skill of chewing, I shall consume my dream pizza.
I won't make this a rant about how my mouth hurts or how I'm getting continually puddler or how my totro DVD won't work. I am getting a new laptop today (FINALLY!!). My Dell XPS died right after finals ended and I was really sad. It was only 3 years old and I loved it but I later learned that the hard drive had died. Dell lost my trust because I loved my computer and they broke my little technological heart when it spontaneously died. So I found a little Sony Vaio on sale and hopefully we will get along splendidly.
It's also Shark Week. Huzzah for distractions. Disney movies work well too.

Youtube and Large Burritos (Spiffy Things)
Why, hello there!
I thought today I'd talk about things I like. Because work yielded no interesting tales.
Maybe this will become a weekly thing if my life is uneventful?
In no particular order, my list of spiffy things!
Ikea... is such a lovely place. It's a huge store and everything is oddly modern with funny fake Swedish names. And they serve meatballs. Really, really good meatballs. See even the pillow in the catalogue is excited about Ikea! (Well it didn't start out that way, but a little bit of Sharpie and green pen quickly remedied that problem)
Chipotle...is what I had for dinner. Their burritos are hugenormous and absolutely delicious. I only discovered them this year because there aren't really any in my town. It was so large I couldn't finish it, but that just means lunch tomorrow! Chipotle is also awesome because my one friend who is gluten/dairy free can eat there too! So many choices of what to stuff into your taco/burrito/other tortilla-based-dish! Huzzah!
The Vlog Brothers. I also just learned about them this year, but I watch their videos on Youtube right after they come out. Definitely look them up if you haven't before. They are an odd mix of comedy, social commentary, and random goodness. What started out as two brothers keeping in touch with each other ended up as giant society of weirdly awesome people. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FyQi79aYfxU&feature=channel_video_title
That's all for today. I have to go research laptops now!
P.S. Coming up on the "Things that are spiffy list" is potentially Domo-Kun, Mac and Cheese, Pixar, aaaaand who knows what else!

Blogger Life: Day 2
I've decided that I'm going to attempt daily updates at my blog, even if I am just talking to the void that we know and love as the internet. Seeing that today was Monday, I went back to work. I only work half day, so it's not really bad at all. Merging on the higway during rush hour certainly is not my favorite pastime, but ah well. We do what we must.
That sounded really melodramatic. My life is not that woeful in reality.
But anyway, it's amazing what some people will do to get their kids into college. Some parents start preparing kids to get into the right high school (so they can springboard into the Ivy Leagues) as young as 9. I would have gone a little crazy if that was my childhood. When I was 9, higher education was not really on my mind. I was more focused on things like Mac and Cheese. And new SpongeBob episodes (which are not bad things to focus on).
I also had coffee this morning. Which may sound pretty typical and boring for most, but I'm personally more of a tea person myself. When blog posts are reduced to discussing the day's beverages, you know it's time to stop writing.
